The name AmneziaWG is also found in applications through which configurations are imported and connections to servers are made. Therefore, the label on the phone screen may refer to the client, although discussions about technologies usually pertain to the protocol.

The installed client itself does not provide a server or internet access through it. A configuration is required: it is provided by the VPN service or created by the owner of the server. In NvoVPN, the file or QR code for manual connection is available in the personal account.

Definition of Amnezia VPN

Amnezia VPN is an application and project for creating and using VPN connections, including on your own server. It addresses a broader task than a standalone protocol: it helps organize and manage the connection.

Comparing an application with a protocol based on "which is faster" is incorrect. An application may use a specific data transmission technology, but the actual performance of the connection also depends on the server, route, and network limitations.

Methods for bypassing restrictions

DPI is the analysis of network traffic, where the provider's equipment attempts to determine the type of connection based on its characteristics. The encrypted content may remain unreadable, but the VPN connection itself can still be recognizable.

AmneziaWG complicates such recognition by altering the characteristic features of packets. However, obfuscation does not mean that the connection will pass through any filtering. Restrictions on addresses, mobile network features, and changes in provider rules can hinder the connection.

In NvoVPN, the main protocol is AmneziaWG, and for bypassing DPI, a stealth mode VLESS/XTLS-Reality is provided, masking as a CDN. The application automatically switches the protocol. This offers another way to connect when AmneziaWG alone is insufficient, but it does not guarantee availability on every network.

Installing the application on Android

There is no need to look for OpenVPN or IKEv2 keys: NvoVPN does not provide these protocols. For manual connection, a compatible AmneziaWG configuration is used.

Installation of the app on iOS

The NvoVPN app exists for iPhone and iPad, but it is available in the App Store outside Russia. Previously installed apps continue to work.

Two official methods are provided for users from Russia. The first retains the capabilities of the proprietary app, including AmneziaWG and VLESS/Reality obfuscation. The second uses a separate AmneziaWG client and manual configuration.

1. Open the NvoVPN guide for iPhone and iPad. When accessed from Russia, the link leads to the appropriate installation procedure.
2. To install the proprietary app, use an Apple ID from another country.
3. Install NvoVPN from the App Store and log in with your service account. You can then return to your Apple ID — the app will remain on the device.
4. For the alternative method, install the free AmneziaWG app available in the Russian App Store. In your NvoVPN personal account, go to "Connection" → "Manually" and obtain a QR code or file .conf.
5. Import the configuration into AmneziaWG and start the connection. Check it first over Wi-Fi: some operators restrict such traffic on mobile networks.

The free part of the second method is the AmneziaWG app, not access to NvoVPN. In Russia, subscriptions are paid on the website; outside Russia, a subscription for a month or a year can be purchased through Apple ID in the app for iPhone and iPad.

On a computer, it is easier to start with the proprietary app to avoid manually transferring the configuration. One account is used both on the website and on devices.

4. If you need a manual profile, go to "Connection" → "Manually" in your personal account and obtain the AmneziaWG configuration. Use it only in a compatible client.

Typical problems and solutions. If the app does not connect, check internet access without VPN, the active tariff, and the program version. Then compare behavior on another network: this helps separate local device settings from operator restrictions.

If the manual profile works over Wi-Fi but not on the mobile network, do not re-import it endlessly. If possible, use the proprietary app with automatic protocol switching or contact support, specifying the device, network, and nature of the error. Do not publicly share the QR code and configuration file.

For routers and Smart TVs, check in advance for support of the required configuration format. Automatic protocol switching in the NvoVPN app cannot be transferred analogously to router settings: connection capabilities are determined by its software.
