Explanation of VLESS

The application on the device receives traffic and directs it to the configured server. The server establishes a connection with the desired website or service, after which it sends the responses back. For it to work, both the client and server must use agreed connection parameters and authorization data.

VLESS itself is not a separate encryption mechanism. The security of the connection depends on what secure transport it is used with; in the discussed pair, this role is performed by Reality. Therefore, the label "VLESS" in the configuration description does not indicate how well it is protected or how noticeable it is to the network filter.

And also: VLESS is not the name of an application. Support for the protocol in the client does not mean that any imported profile will automatically work: the server may be unavailable, parameters may be outdated, and the local network may restrict the required connection method.

How Reality works

Reality uses TLS mechanisms to make the secure connection look closer to a regular request to a web service.
