Try “connection”, “billing”, “speed”.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a technology that creates an encrypted connection between your device and our server. All your data passes through this secure "tunnel", which ensures:

  • Privacy — your internet provider does not see which sites you visit
  • Security — your data is protected from interception
  • Anonymity — your real IP address is hidden
  • Bypassing blocks — access to blocked resources

NvoVPN works on the AmneziaWG protocol (WireGuard with traffic masking) and VLESS/Reality (stealth mode): if a provider blocks AmneziaWG, the app switches to VLESS/Reality automatically.

NvoVPN has two protocols, and you usually don't need to choose between them manually — the app switches on its own.

AmneziaWG:

  • What it is: WireGuard with packet masking — the same modern cryptography, but the traffic does not look like a VPN
  • Speed: high, with fast reconnection when the network changes
  • Recommended for: most networks where VPNs are not deliberately blocked

VLESS/Reality (stealth mode):

  • What it is: the traffic looks like a regular HTTPS connection
  • Reliability: works where a provider cuts VPN protocols (DPI)
  • Recommended for: mobile internet and providers with strict filtering

The NvoVPN app switches from AmneziaWG to VLESS/Reality on its own if a provider blocks the connection; you can also turn on stealth mode manually. NvoVPN does not use OpenVPN or IKEv2.

A decrease in speed can occur for several reasons:

  1. Distance to server: The further away the server, the greater the latency. Select the nearest servers.
  2. Server load:During peak hours, servers may be overloaded.
  3. Your Internet connection:A VPN cannot increase your base speed.
  4. Encryption protocol:Some protocols are faster than others.
  5. ISP restrictions: Some ISPs limit VPN traffic.

Tips for maximum speed:

  • Use the AmneziaVPN protocol
  • Connect to the nearest server
  • Avoid peak hours (19:00-23:00)
  • Disable functions like "Kill Switch" if not needed

Setting up a VPN on your router protects all devices on the network at the same time:

Supported routers:

  • ASUS (Merlin/Stock firmware)
  • TP-Link with OpenWRT
  • MikroTik
  • DD-WRT compatible
  • GL.iNet

Basic steps:

  1. Download the AmneziaVPN configuration from your personal account
  2. Log into your router's control panel (usually 192.168.1.1)
  3. Find the VPN/AmneziaVPN section
  4. Import the configuration file
  5. Activate the connection
  6. Reboot your router

Advantages of router VPN:

  • Protection of all devices (IoT, smart home)
  • No need to configure each device separately
  • Works even with devices without VPN support
  • Permanent connection

Kill Switch is a security feature that blocks all Internet traffic when the VPN connection is lost.

How it works:

  1. VPN connection is active - traffic is flowing normally
  2. VPN connection is interrupted
  3. Kill Switch instantly blocks the Internet
  4. Your data is not exposed to the open network
  5. The Internet is resumed only after the VPN is restored

When it's critical:

  • Torrents: Protects against real IP leakage
  • Banking:Prevents the interception of financial data
  • Working with confidential information
  • In censored countries:Hide the fact of using a VPN

NvoVPN Kill Switch is enabled by default for your security.

Some websites block VPN connections for the following reasons:

Main reasons for blocking:

  • Geo-restrictions: Websites detect the country by IP and block VPN servers
  • Anti-bot systems: Cloudflare and other systems see a shared IP
  • Banking systems: Banks block suspicious IP addresses
  • Streaming services: Netflix and Hulu fight against bypassing geo-blocks

What helps in NvoVPN:

  • Another server: each server has its own IP address — a site that blocked one may open through another
  • Servers marked "Streaming": they are checked every day for whether video services open (the list is on the status page)
  • Stealth mode (VLESS/Reality): disguises VPN traffic as regular HTTPS
  • Automatic protocol switching: the app switches from AmneziaWG to VLESS/Reality on its own if a provider blocks the connection

If a website does not work, try:

  1. Switching the server
  2. Turning on stealth mode
  3. Clearing the browser cache and cookies
  4. Temporarily disabling browser extensions

Split Tunneling is a feature that sends only part of the traffic through the VPN and the rest directly — for example, the browser through the VPN and a banking app without it.

The NvoVPN apps do not have split tunneling: when the VPN is on, all of the device's traffic goes through it.

If a website or app does not work through the VPN:

  • Turn the VPN off while you sign in to the banking app or website
  • Choose another NvoVPN server — each server has its own IP address

In NvoVPN, each server has its own IP address, and it is shared by everyone connected to that server. NvoVPN does not offer dedicated (static) IP addresses "just for you" — neither in its plans nor as a separate service.

How this differs:

  • Shared server IP (as in NvoVPN): it is harder to single you out among other users; to change your IP, connect to another server
  • Dedicated IP (offered by some other services for an extra fee): the address belongs to one customer — convenient for corporate allowlists and servers, but such an address is easier to link to you

If you need a permanent personal IP (a work allowlist, access to your own server), NvoVPN is not suitable for that.

A VPN protects your own IP address from DDoS attacks: in games, calls and streams, other participants see the IP of the NvoVPN server rather than yours, so they cannot attack your connection directly.

What this gives you:

  • Hiding your real IP: attackers see only the IP of our server, not your address
  • Protection in games and streams: your home IP is not visible to other players and viewers

If the server you are connected to works poorly, choose another one in the app. A VPN does not protect websites and game servers that you host yourself — they need separate protection from your hosting provider.

Check that your VPN works in 5 simple steps:

Quick check:

  • IP address: Go to whatismyipaddress.com — it should show the server's IP, not yours
  • DNS leak: Check at dnsleaktest.com — your provider's DNS servers should not appear
  • WebRTC leak: Check at browserleaks.com/webrtc
  • Speed: Test at speedtest.net with and without the VPN
  • Geolocation: Make sure websites see the country of the selected server

In the NvoVPN app:

  • Stealth mode: Settings → Stealth mode (Off / Auto / Always on); on the main screen — "Poor connection? →"
  • Kill Switch (Windows and macOS): in the settings — blocks the internet if the VPN connection drops

The app has no built-in leak test — use the websites listed above.

What to do if you find a leak:

  • Reconnect to another server
  • Turn on the Kill Switch if it is off (on a computer)
  • Update the app to the latest version
  • Contact support

You do not need to transfer settings — the subscription is tied to your NvoVPN account:

  1. Install NvoVPN on the new device
  2. Sign in with the same account (email and password) or with a sign-in code from your account
  3. Tap the shield to connect

If the device limit is reached, remove the old device in your account (the "Devices" section). The app has no settings export or cloud sync — the options you need (stealth mode, Kill Switch, auto start) take a minute to turn on again.

Where ordinary VPNs are blocked, NvoVPN works on two protocols:

Stealth mode (VLESS/Reality):

  • What it is: VPN traffic disguised as ordinary HTTPS
  • How to turn it on: in the app or in your account; in "Auto" mode the app switches the protocol by itself
  • Where it is available: on all NvoVPN servers

AmneziaWG:

  • What it is: obfuscated WireGuard — NvoVPN's main protocol
  • If it does not connect: turn on stealth mode or choose another server

Before your trip:

  1. Install the app before entering the country
  2. Check that it connects in stealth mode
  3. Save the support contacts offline

NvoVPN servers are in the Netherlands, Germany, France, the USA, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. If you cannot connect on your network, write to support — we will pick a server and protocol for you.

Support is available 24/7.

Double debiting usually occurs for several reasons:

Main reasons:

1. Pre-authorization (hold)

  • What is it: The bank reserves the amount, but does not write it off
  • What it looks like: Two identical amounts, one with the “hold” status
  • Solution:The hold will disappear in 3-10 banking days

2. Technical error

  • Cause:Failure in the payment system
  • Solution: Contact support, we will refund one amount

3. Double click when paying

  • Reason: Clicked “Pay” twice
  • Solution: We will see two identical transactions and return one

4. Different currencies

  • Reason: One amount is in rubles, the other is in dollars/euros
  • Solution:Check conversion rates

What to do:

  1. Don’t panic - 99% of double charges are a hold
  2. Check the status of payments in your personal account
  3. Wait 3 banking days
  4. If the hold has not disappeared, contact your bank
  5. If this is an error on our part, write to support

How to avoid in the future:

  • Do not refresh the page during payment
  • Do not click the "Pay" button several times
  • Use fast payments (Apple Pay/Google Pay)
  • Save a screenshot of the payment confirmation

When contacting support, please indicate: date, amount, last 4 digits of the card, email account.

VPN and antivirus are different protection technologies:

What VPN protects:

  • Data interception:Protects against sniffers on public networks
  • ISP Tracking:Hides your Internet activity
  • Phishing attacks:Makes your location difficult to track
  • DDoS attacks:Hides your real IP address
  • MITM attacks:Encrypts traffic between you and the server

What a VPN does NOT protect:

  • Viruses and Trojans:Does not scan files for malicious code
  • Phishing sites:Does not block access to fraudulent sites
  • Malicious scripts:Does not check JavaScript on pages
  • Browser vulnerabilities:Does not fix security holes
  • Social engineering:Does not protect against deception

Recommended protection:

Threat VPN Antivirus Firewall
Data interception in a cafe ✅ ❌ ❌
Virus in the downloaded file ❌ ✅ ⚠️
DDoS attack ✅ ❌ ⚠️

Comprehensive protection:

  1. VPN: NvoVPN for traffic encryption
  2. Antivirus:Kaspersky, Bitdefender or Windows Defender
  3. Firewall: Built-in or third-party
  4. Ad blocker:uBlock Origin
  5. Password manager: Bitwarden, 1Password

Use a VPN with an antivirus for maximum protection.

VPN is the only reliable protection in public WiFi networks:

Dangers of public WiFi:

  • Packet sniffing:Intercepting unencrypted traffic
  • Fake hotspots:Fake access points
  • MITM attacks:Man in the middle
  • Session hijacking:Stealing cookies and sessions
  • Data in clear form:Passwords, messages, photos

How VPN protects:

  1. Encryption:All data is encrypted before leaving the device
  2. Protection against sniffing:Even if intercepted, they will not decrypt
  3. Secure DNS:Requests go through our secure servers
  4. Hiding activity:The WiFi provider can't see what you're doing
  5. Attack Protection:Makes it harder for attacks to attack you

Setting up for public WiFi:

  1. Enable "Auto-connect to unsecured networks"
  2. Activate Kill Switch
  3. Use AmneziaVPN for maximum speed
  4. Check for DNS leaks
  5. Turn off file sharing

What else needs to be done on public WiFi:

  • Use HTTPS everywhere (browser extension)
  • Don't log into banking apps without a VPN
  • Disable auto-connection to WiFi
  • Do not transmit confidential data
  • Use mobile internet if possible

Places where VPN is required:

  • Airports and train stations
  • Cafes and restaurants
  • Hotels and hostels
  • Shopping centers
  • Libraries and universities
  • Conferences and events

Enable VPN BEFORE connecting to a public network.
